Paid Memberships Pro and the Restriction of Content on WordPress

In continuing our look at membership plugins, we focus on our attention on two restriction plugins.

Paid Memberships Pro, from Jason Coleman, is the first free plugin we have seen, and shows a lot of promise.

Restrict Content Pro, from Pippin Williamson of the popular Pippin’s Plugins, is a cheaper yet more functional alternative.

Watch this video for a more in-depth look.

Restricting Content on a Website

For those of you who have certain content that would be deemed premium, finding a way to restrict access to the non-paying user is important.  Both of these plugins offer a good solution on the WordPress framework. They do not however offer the great content dripping that we talked about with MagicMembers.

With Paid Memberships Pro, the user on WordPress can create a restriction on Categories in WordPress. This will make it so every post placed in the “Restrict” category (for example) can be accessed only once a user has become a “Gold Member” or whatever you wish to call it.

Good for SEO

One interesting topic we touch upon in the video is SEO with premium content.

In the case of the Restrict Content Pro plugin, though content may not be viewable by those without a subscription, it will still index in Google and in other search engines.  This means that a viewer can still search for your page, and when they click the link to view the page, they will need to log in or create an account to view the content.

Effective stuff.
