While there are many excellent IP blogs aimed at lawyers,  not everyone involved with IP is a lawyer, and, not every lawyer is an IP specialist.  Inventors, business owners, venture capitalists,  in-house counsel and other attorneys also need information on patents, trademarks, copyrights and IP issues, but may not have the background or time to dig through some of the more concentrated IP content available online.

Obviously Patentable (ObviPat) was born! Bruce and Orlando had a very targeted idea, and therefore required a very personalized product.

obvIPat intends to become an accessible and reliable voice to the online IP community for relevant IP issues.

We started from the ground up beginning with logo design, and moved on to designing a branded web site that fit their needs. Bruce and Orlando also desired a site that they could control and update on their own. Slocum’s Edge is a beautiful property with many unique  amenities. The website needed to be as fully loaded as the house to draw potential customers in and interest them to request more information.

Slocum’s Edge is located on the historic Slocum River. Slocum Studio showcases unique photography of the river and surrounding areas from Mark Medeiros photography.  Visiting the site gives you the feeling of looking off the dock to the river while still feeling the comforts of the vacation home.

Pairing excellent design with a content management solution, we successfully created a showcase website that he is able to control himself and will be drawing new customers to the house for years to come.

Pepsi

The first example I noticed was from Pepsi. They launched their “Refresh Everything” campaign that was the first major advertising campaign with their newly redesigned logo. They used the 2009 Presidential Inauguration as a vehicle to get their message out there. They launched their campaign and put it EVERYWHERE replacing all ‘O’s with the new Pepsi logo.

They also launched a television spot:

South Park

Mocking Pepsi, South Park Studios used this same ad format and produced a parody ad, which was played on Comedy Central last Winter.

Ford Motor Company

The trend has now filtered into the automotive industry with Ford Motor Company using it for their F-150 commercials. There have been several so far, and it seems that they are sticking to the style.

Fox Broadcasting Company

Fox Broadcasting Company has recently started to use this as well in their national commercials that explain their nightly schedules. These have not yet made it onto the internet yet.

Planet Fitness

Starting the 1st of the year, Planet Fitness launched a campaign similar to Ford’s. Upon further research, I discovered that they had been doing using kinetic typography for almost a year’s time.

Starbucks

Starbucks joined Pepsi encouraging people to vote by offering them a free cup of coffee if they voted in the 2008 election.

They also used this advertising style to raise awareness for their Red fundraising efforts to help fight AIDS.

Charlie Moore: The Mad Fisherman

Even local area stations have started employing the trend on ads. Mad Fish is a show on NESN, New England Sports Network, featuring Charlie Moore. Recently they have launched an ad featuring the same kinetic typography style as the Ford commercials. I also could not find any clips of this online.

Zombieland

Another example I noticed was in the film Zombieland. Throughout the film, viewers are reminded of the basic rules of survival in Zombieland by typography creatively placed and animated within the scene.

They recently came to Slocum Studio because they had a problem. They had a website, but it was outdated and they couldn’t edit it. They had come to the right place.

We worked closely with the DEF and developed them an aesthetically pleasing website packed with information about the foundation. In doing so, we implemented the website onto a content management system so from now on, the foundation can edit their own content. This gives them the power to deliver up to the minute information to their user base, an extremely important feature in today’s fast paced world.

“The Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly is a non-profit 501 C organization, and we’ve been around for 20 some odd years. All of the money, every single cent goes to the Dartmouth Council on Aging, and to our seniors in the area.” – Maria Lawton, Vice President of the Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly

The calendar is a major annual fundraiser for the Friends which makes it possible for them to provide programming to local seniors throughout the year. For the third year in a row, Mark Medeiros was in charge of the photography. The photos featured both Mark’s Studio and On Location photography skill sets.

“The Women of Dartmouth calendar was a fun project and as a pro photographer, I was able to push a little of my creative ideas all the while having a great time with these women. They were all good sports and fun to be around.” – Mark Medeiros

Along with the need for professional photography, the group also wanted something they had never had before: the ability to sell calendars on the Internet.

“In the past two years we have sold out of calendars. For the first time ever you can purchase them online. Again 100% of the proceeds are going to the organization” – Maria Lawton, Vice President of the Dartmouth Friends of the Elderly

Slocum Design Studio came to the rescue, creating a simple, yet elegant website that both displayed the quality of the calendar’s photography and allowed interested customers to purchase their copy online.
