It seems like there’s a lot of competition in the WordPress contact form plugin space.
We covered Gravity Forms a while back and we’re probably due for another review soon. However, GF positions itself as more than just a simple contact form. It’s a framework for data capture and integration for WordPress.
At least that’s how I define it.
Enter the Ninja Forms (aff. link) plugin — a true contender to GF? Tune in to find out!

“Do I need another contact form plugin?”
First, what kind of WordPress user are you?
Are you the small business owner or blogger looking to setup a basic contact form for your new site? Are you the developer or consultant type offering WordPress services to others?
I think you have to answer that question first along with predicting anything else you might do with a form:
- Accepting payments
- Integrating with a 3rd party service (Mailchimp, SalesForce, etc)
- Capturing data for WordPress
If you don’t think you’re ever going to entertain the above, using Ninja Forms to build a simple contact form for free is still possible. However, as we outline in our video, as simple and intuitive Ninja Forms is for us WordPress folk — it still might be overwhelming for a beginner.
If you think you just need the basics, there are other free and easy alternatives. (see that link for ContactForm 7)
Beyond the basic contact form
Ninja Forms (aff. link) seems to be positioning itself as a viable alternative for the Gravity Forms crowd. For anyone new to WordPress, the freemium model is going to be super attractive. A familiar and easy to use form builder UI is always welcoming especially when building more complex pages.
When you’re ready to extend Ninja Forms you can leverage extensions that are available for purchase. It’s important to know that these extensions are a one-time purchase and comes with upgrades for life — at least as of this review.
Is Ninja Forms a Gravity Forms alternative?
It’s safe to say that many WordPress contact forms have a long way to go to compete with Gravity Forms.
Not just in features and usability, but brand recognition and 3rd party development. Gravity Forms has been around for a while and they have a solid product with a lot of integrations.
Do we recommend Ninja Forms? Yep.
